Bagry Reservoir

Bagry Reservoir lies between ul. Wielicka and ul. Lipska, very close to the Kraków Płaszów railway line and the tram flyover. Formerly a gravel pit, sand, gravel, and clay were extracted here for the development of the railway hub in Prokocim and Kraków itself. The pits closed in 1972, yet for the following two decades the rail authorities treated it as a landfill site, dumping waste and reinforced concrete that then were covered with soil. Covering around 31 ha, Bagry is today one of the largest reservoirs in Kraków. It is used by sailors learning navigation, champions honing their skills, and divers marvelling at the equipment sunk to a depths of between 6m and 11m. Apart from a bathing site and a few quays, there are also three wild beaches.
