Solvay Centre for Contemporary Art operates on the premises of the former Solvay Works that operated here from 1906 to 1989, when it was closed down due to pollution. Only two buildings remain of the whole industrial complex: one is part of the Zakopianka shopping mall, the other is the the Solvay Centre for Contemporary Art, an active branch of the Podgórze Culture Centre.
