Basilica of the Holiest Heart of Jesus stands on ul. Kopernika and is one of the largest works of sacred art from the early 20th c. Its external guise, designed by Franciszek Mączyński refers to Romanesque, Gothic, and baroque architecture, while the interior is lavishly decorated with murals and mosaics inspired by Byzantine art. The impressive stone portal is a work of Xawery Dunikowski. The 68-metre tower dominates the adjacent buildings that house the Jesuit College, the Seminary of Theology, WAM – Poland’s oldest Catholic publishers, and the Ignatianum Academy run by the Jesuits since 1932.
